Many patients in Brownstown, MI, with missing teeth want to learn more about what to expect with dental implants. Whether you have one or several missing teeth, we can take care of both the dental implant placement and the restoration. Your treatment begins with a one-on-one consultation with our experienced team to determine what types of implants you need and how many teeth need treatment. Our team can review insurance benefits to determine whether your insurance provider will cover some or all of your treatment. We can then put you on the schedule for any pre-operative procedures such as bone grafting or a sinus lift, or the placement procedure itself.
How Dental Implants Work
Dental implant surgery is performed right in our office in Brownstown, MI, and Dr. Hanson offers IV sedation to make your visit as comfortable and painless as possible. Dr. Hanson places hundreds of dental implants a year so you know you will be working with an experienced implant dentist. The surgery involves fusing the base of the dental implant with the jaw bone using a special surgery technique. Dr. Hanson will need to make a small opening in the gums to access the jaw bone and once the base of the implant is placed successfully, the treatment area is closed up with sutures. The healing phase for dental implants can take several months because this is the period of time where the base of the implant fully attaches to the jaw bone. This process is called osseointegration and the amount of time this takes can vary from patient to patient. Once fully healed, Dr. Hanson can complete the restoration process that involves placing the crown on top of the implant. If you are getting implant supported dentures or full arch implants, he will attach the dentures or the fabricated teeth to the implant.
